Tour itinerary

Depending on your arrival time, a driver/guide from Marruecos tours will pick you up at Marrakech Menara Airport. You will then be transferred to the Riad/Hotel in the Medina of Marrakech, where you will spend the first night.

Today you will embark on a guided day trip to discover the mysteries of the medina of Marrakech. A professional local guide will provide you with an overview of the most impressive places in the red city.

You will have the opportunity to visit Bab Er Robb, the Saadian monuments, the El Badi Palace, the Ali Ben Youssef madrasa, the Koutoubia mosque, and of course, the famous Jemaa El Fna square.

In the medina, there are many places of interest, such as the Majorelle Gardens. We will spend the night in a Riad located near the Jemaa El Fna square.

12 days from Marrakech begins with a morning pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech. We will drive through the enchanting High Atlas mountains and the Tizi-N-Tichka pass. We will stop to admire the magnificent landscapes from a panoramic perspective. Next, we will visit the Kasbah of Telouat.

Then we will head to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. UNESCO has designated this fortified village as a World Heritage site. Additionally, the Kasbah has appeared in numerous films, such as Alexander, The Mummy, and Gladiator.

It also appears in TV shows like Game of Thrones. Afterward, we will head to Ouarzazate, known as “The Gateway to the Desert.” Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

After lunch, we will embark on an exploration of the city of Ouarzazate. First, we will visit the Atlas Studios, where several famous films have been shot. We will also visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, an ancient and magnificent fortified mud-brick fortress.

We will continue to Skoura, where we will visit the Kasbah of Amridil, surrounded by palm plantations to the east. Then we will head to Kalaa Magouna, famous for its Valley of Roses. Every year in May, a Rose Festival is celebrated, during which the local community sells its rose-related products, such as perfumes, rose water, oil, and cosmetics.

Next, we will head to the Dades Valley passing through Boumalne Dades. Stops at the “monkey fingers” rock formation and the top of a mountain from which you can see the Dades Valley are inevitable. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Boumalne Dades.

After breakfast, we will head to the Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved a magnificent canyon through the mountains, resulting in a high red cliff canyon.

Feel free to explore the gorges and enjoy the impressive majesty of the surroundings. We will cross the palm plantations of Touroug and Tinjdad. You can have lunch along the way.

In the afternoon we will arrive at the Saharan desert of Merzouga. Here you will switch to dromedaries and cross the arid desert. We will take a break to let you enjoy the enchanting sunset from the top of a high dune. Next, you will head to the luxury desert lodge.

Where you can dance around the campfire while listening to Berber percussion music, all while admiring the vast open sky filled with stars. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

After a delicious breakfast, we will head to the village of Khamlia, where you will be fascinated by the authentic gnawa rhythms. Next, we will deviate from the usual route to explore the dunes by an unpaved road and make a stop to have tea with the nomads in traditional Berber tents.

This immersive experience offers a glimpse into a different lifestyle, and you will have the opportunity to have a Berber pizza for lunch. In the late afternoon, you will prepare for an extraordinary camel ride to the heart of the dunes to witness the spectacular sunset before resting in the hotel.

Upon arrival at the camp, you will be welcomed with mint tea before heading to your comfortable tent, complete with bathroom and shower, while the Sahara illuminates its impressive night colors. A musical performance by the group around the fire enriches the charm of the night in the desert while you dine.

We leave the desert after breakfast to explore the city of Rissani, the ancient metropolis of Tafilalet. Rissani remains an important commercial center of the region, with an expanding souk bustling on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. We will head to Erfoud, where we will visit one of the fossilized marble workshops, after a leisurely walk in the Rissani souk.

Next, we will stop to enjoy a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley while driving along the Ziz River. Free time for lunch in Midelt. Next, we will head to the Cedars Forest, home to Barbary macaques. Do not hesitate to feed them while exploring the forest.

Next, we will cross Ifrane, famous for its alpine-style houses, snow, and low temperatures. It’s not surprising that it is known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Your accommodation in Fez is the final destination where we will deliver you.

After breakfast, we will pick you up at your accommodation in Fez to embark on a guided tour of the city. In addition to being the cultural and religious epicenter of Morocco, the city is recognized as one of the imperial cities.

We will start the day by visiting the gate of the Royal Palace. Next, the medieval Medina, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is very well preserved. The entrance to the old Medina is known as the Blue Gate or Bab Boujloud.

A local guide will accompany you to the entrance of the Medina. We will visit the Bouanania Madrasa, the Nejjarine Fountain, the Tanneries, and the Quaraouin Mosque and University, the oldest in the world.

Next, we will leave the Medina to explore the Jewish quarter, known as “the Mellah.” Later, we will head to an ancient citadel, where we can enjoy a panoramic view of the Medina and the city of Fez. Next, we will transfer you to your riad.

We will depart after breakfast to explore Meknes during our 12-day itinerary from MARRAKECH, the imperial city and capital of the Ismaili people. We will explore: the royal stables, the granary, the Sahrij Souani pond, and Bab Al-Mansour.

Lunch. Next, 30 kilometers from Meknes, we will explore the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis. They are in an excellent state of preservation, having been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. There are numerous impressive mosaics scattered throughout the area, as well as ancient pillars and arches.

We continue north through Ouazzane to reach Chefchaouen, in the Rif mountains, after a pleasant walk among the ruins. It is also known as the “Blue City.” The city is famous for its narrow streets and blue-painted structures. Overnight in a hotel.

In the morning, we will take you to Rabat and visit the Kasbah of Udaya, erected by a terrible tribe of predators in the 12th century.

Later, we will visit the Hassan 2 Tower, where the 4 facades are decorated differently from one another, three in shades of pink and one in gray due to the sea breeze; you will discover the mausoleum next to the tower. Arrival in Casablanca in the late afternoon. Finally, overnight in a hotel.

Start of the 12 DAYS FROM MARRAKECH After breakfast. Departure for Marrakech via highway, rest stop for coffee, and then continue to the red city of Marrakech. Arrival in the evening and overnight at the hotel/riad.

Destinations and attractions

A short guide to every place you will visit on this tour.

The “Red City” was founded by the Almoravids in the 11th century and its medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its heart is Jemaa el-Fna square, alive with storytellers, musicians and food stalls at dusk. Don't miss the Koutoubia minaret, the souks, the Bahia Palace and the Majorelle Garden.

At 2,260 metres, this pass is one of the highest road crossings in North Africa and links Marrakech with Ouarzazate across the High Atlas. The road winds between peaks, Berber mud-brick villages and terraced fields, with spectacular viewpoints at every bend.

Hidden in the High Atlas, the Telouet Kasbah was the power base of Pasha El Glaoui, who controlled the old caravan route. Behind its crumbling mud-brick walls are halls decorated with zellige tilework, carved stucco and painted cedar ceilings.

This fortified mud-brick ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, was a stop on the old caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. Its houses stacked up the hillside have been the setting for films and series such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

Known as the “gateway to the desert”, Ouarzazate is the great crossroads of southern Morocco. Its film studios, such as Atlas Studios, have hosted Hollywood productions, and the Taourirt Kasbah, once a residence of the Glaoui family, is one of the most beautiful in the region.

Skoura is a palm-grove oasis dotted with mud-brick kasbahs, a few kilometres from Ouarzazate. Its jewel is the 17th-century Kasbah Amridil, one of the best preserved in Morocco and so iconic that it appeared on the old 50-dirham banknote.

Around Kelaat M'Gouna, the Valley of Roses fills every spring with Damask roses, used to make rose water and rose oil. The famous Rose Festival is held in May, and rose products can be bought from its cooperatives all year round.

Boumalne Dades is the town at the entrance to the Dades Gorges, overlooking a valley of kasbahs and gardens. It is a good place to spend the night on the way to the desert and to start the drive up the canyon.

The Dades Valley, known for its kasbahs, narrows into gorges of reddish rock with curious formations such as the “monkey fingers”. The road that climbs the canyon, with its famous hairpin bends, is one of the most photographed in Morocco.

Near Tinghir, the Todra River has carved a spectacular canyon whose rock walls reach about 300 metres high and, at the narrowest point, leave just a few metres between them. It is a perfect place to walk along the river and one of the best-known climbing spots in the country.

The Erg Chebbi dunes, next to the village of Merzouga, rise to around 150 metres and change colour with the light of day. It is the perfect place for a sunset camel ride, a night in a tented camp under a sky full of stars and a sunrise over the Sahara.

Set at about 1,500 metres between the Middle and High Atlas, Midelt is known as the apple town for its orchards. It is a natural stop on the route between Fes and the desert, with views of the snow-capped Jbel Ayachi and a quiet mountain atmosphere.

Near Azrou and Ifrane lies one of the largest Atlas cedar forests, with trees several centuries old. Barbary macaques, a protected species, live freely among them and can often be seen near the road.

At about 1,650 metres in the Middle Atlas, Ifrane surprises with its pitched roofs, gardens and alpine feel, which is why it is called Morocco's “little Switzerland”. Its stone lion is the must-have photo, and in winter snow covers the town.

Next to the ruins of ancient Sijilmasa, a great caravan city of the Sahara, Rissani is the cradle of the Alaouite dynasty that rules Morocco today. Its lively souk, especially on market days, is one of the most authentic in the south.

Founded at the end of the 8th century, Fes is the oldest of Morocco's imperial cities, and its medina, Fes el-Bali, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest car-free urban areas in the world. Wander its alleys to the Chouara tannery, the Bou Inania and Attarine madrasas and the Al Qarawiyyin mosque-university, founded in 859.

Meknes was the capital of Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century, who surrounded it with walls and palaces, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its most famous monument is the Bab Mansour gate; also visit the Heri es-Souani granaries and stables and El Hedim square.

Volubilis is the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Among olive groves and wheat fields you can still see the Arch of Caracalla, the basilica, the capitol and superb mosaics on the floors of the ancient houses.

Tucked away in the Rif mountains, the “blue pearl” was founded in 1471 and is famous for the blue-washed walls of its medina. Stroll its peaceful alleys, head up to Outa el-Hammam square and the kasbah, and watch the town from the Spanish Mosque at sunset.

Morocco's capital combines history and modern life on the Atlantic coast and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012. Explore the Kasbah of the Udayas with its blue and white lanes, the unfinished 12th-century Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.

Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and economic engine. Its great symbol is the Hassan II Mosque, built partly over the Atlantic Ocean, with a minaret of about 210 metres, one of the tallest in the world; the Corniche and the city's Art Deco buildings complete the visit.
